Miss Esther McClelland Assistant in Sen. Chas. Curtis' Office

Miss Esther McClelland, formerly of Olathe, has been appointed as an assistant in the office of Senator Charles Curtis. Since the beginning of the war, Miss McClelland has served as a clerk in the post office department at Washington.

Miss McClelland is a former Olathe girl and is a sister of Miss Alice McClelland, county superintendent. Her friends are indeed glad to hear of her promotion. She is a capable girl and will make good at her new work.

MISS M'CLELLAND DIES

FORMER SECRETARY OF CHARLES CURTIS WAS 76

She Worked on Senator's Staff Before He Became Vice-President

Miss Esther McClelland, 76 years old, Olathe, died last night at the Olathe Community hospital after an illness of several years.

When the late Vice-President Charles Curtis was a United States senator from Kansas, Miss McClelland was a secretary in his office for two years.

She was employed in Washington for about 10 years working as a secretary in government offices. She returned to live on the family farm near Olathe about 30 years ago.

She was born near Marshall, Mo., was a graduate of the Fort Scott, Kas., high school and attended the Salina Wesleyan Business college. She was a member of the First Methodist church in Olathe.

Her parents, who moved to the family farm about 50 years ago, were James McClelland and Florence Houston McClelland.

She leaves three sisters, Miss Belle McClelland and Miss Alice McClelland, both of the home, and Mrs. ELizabeth Davis, Alderwood Manor, Wash.

Services will be at 11 o'clock Friday at the Julien-Fleming chapel in Olathe. Burial will be in the Olathe cemetery.
