DAVIS I. MYERS DIES ON PLACE SETTLED IN RUN

Had Been Active in Supervising Work on Land Until Few Days Ago

Davis Lee Myers, 83 years old, died Saturday on the homestead he staked out in 18[8]9, and in the home he built for the bride he married a year later.

He had been confined to his bed only three days, and until this year had farmed his 14-acre tract, one half mile east of the Fairgrounds on NE Eighth-st, annually.

Even this year the habits of the past 40 years were not easily shaken off, and he supervised planting of potatoes, beans and other garden crops.

Life On Farms

Except for part of one year, when he operated a wagon yard here in 1907, he spent his entire lifetime on farms in Kansas and Oklahoma.

He was born near Cedar Rapids, Ia., in 1855, and when he was 16 he moved into Butler County, Kansas, with his parents. Soon after that he met the girl who later was to become his wife.

learning of the opening of Indian Territory, he decided to try his luck in the new country.

Came In Run

He made the run of '89 and came directly to the site east of the city where he lived until his death. During the year that followed, he broke the land for the first time and built a home.

Then, in 1890, he returned to Butler County, married and brought his bride to her new home in the new land. They never left.

Mrs. Myers, now 75 years old survived him.

In 1907, Mr. Myers operated Mills Old Stand, a wagon year, comparable to present-day parking lots, in the 100 block W. Reno-av.

Returned to Farm

Deciding that city life of even that early date was not for him, he sold out his interest the following year and devoted his entire time to his farm.

In addition to his wife, mr. Myers leaves two sisters, Mrs. J. F. Renfro, of Cedar Point, Kas., and Mrs. J. Simms, of Manhattan, Kas. There were no children.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a. m. Monday at the Watts & McAtee Funeral Home, 1301 N. Robinson-av, with burial in Sunnylane Cemetery.
