Obituary

It is perhaps always true, when one stands at the point of departure out of life on earth of one who has been known for many years, that there comes a hidden and almost peremptory vision of the long course of acquaintance, and of frequent mutual converse which has preceded. It is as when one rises to the summit of a crest on a long journey, from which he looks back at a glance over the miles which he traversed, and note again the chief objects of interest which have attracted attention on the way.

There are some lives that disappoint us, and some impressions of character which we have to reverse in later years, possibly even to reverse. But we believe the first impression we had of our departed friend, Mrs. Mary Catherine Hogue, has remained unchanged as the years have passed. We believe that she was all that could be desired as a wife, mother, and neighbor, and it is with deep regret that we announce her sudden death. While going about her household duties early on Friday morning, February 8, she was suddenly taken ill and before medical aid could be summoned, she had gone to her reward.

She leaves a husband, John C. Hogue, on daughter, Mrs. Nina Hickman, and one son, Newell, and a host of friends to mourn her loss. She was 45 years and 8 months old and was born in Clinton county, Mo.

The funeral was conducted at the home on Sunday afternoon by Rev. David M. Beggs who spoke from the text found in Mark 13:33. Mrs. Bert Russell and Mrs. Beggs sang appropriate selections. The remains were followed by a host of friends and laid to rest in Arcadia Cemetery. Mr. A. H. Hastings took personal charge of funeral arrangements and dispatched them to everyone's satisfaction.
