WINIFRED NELSON GALL, age 80, of Houston, Texas, passed away at home Thursday, January 27, 2005. Born February 17, 1924 in Norfork, Nebraska, Win was the youngest of the seven children born to Laurel Stambaugh and Marvin C. Nelson. Win attended the University of Nebraska and worked for the Lincoln Gazette as a photographer and newspaper reporter. She moved to Washington, D.C. in 1944 to work for The Washington Post where she was assigned to cover the federal courts. She was later correspondent for the Arizona Gazette and Indianapolis Star. Majority Leader, Ken Wherry of the United States Senate, introduced her to future husband, Lawrence H. Gall, a Washington, D.C. attorney. The couple was married in Upperville, Virginia, December 18, 1948. After moving to Houston in 1965, where her husband Larry was employed by Transco Energy Company, she became an active member in the Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church. Following her passion for art, Win volunteered as a docent for many years at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. Win was an avid reader, traveler, swimmer, pianist and painter. While accompanying her husband Larry on business trips, she often engaged in scuba, surfing and horseback riding adventures. She was a devoted mother who encouraged in her three daughters a love of life, independence and adventure. Win is survived by her husband, Lawrence Gall of Houston, Texas; children, Sally Gall (Stephens) of New York City, Linda Gall Silva of Claremont, California and Constance Gall Rhebergen of Houston; and four grandchildren, Kathleen "Katy" and Nathan Silva and Kelsey and Brock Rhebergen. A memorial celebration of her life will be conducted at eleven o'clock in the morning on Saturday, the 5th of February, at Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church, 11612 Memorial Drive in Houston, with Rev. Victoria Jones officiating. In lieu of usual remembrances, the family suggests memorials in Winifred's name be directed to the Alzheimer's Association, 2909 W. Holcombe Blvd., Houston, TX, 77025; or to the charity of one's choice.

LAWRENCE "LARRY" HOWARD GALL, of Houston, Texas, passed away at home Sunday, July 30, 2006, at the age of 88. Born December 17, 1917 in Leesville, South Carolina, Larry was the youngest and last survivor of ten children born to John Jacob Gall and Bertha Babcock Smyer; after Mara Odessa, Vivian Ross, John Christian, Leone Smyer, Kathleen Crooks, Leta McBee, Joseph, Robert William, and Francis "Frank" Gall. From his first ventures to his industry-shaping role as a prominent lawyer in the oil and gas industry, Larry was a successful businessman. Beginning with a B.A. in English from the University of South Carolina, then taking a law degree from its law school in 1941, his first legal post was as staff lawyer with the DuPont Company, which is where he was when Pearl Harbor was attacked. During the start of WWII, he was assigned as Asst. Gen Counsel to the Remington Arms Corp. Later, after graduating midshipman school at Notre Dame, he served in the Pacific theatre as Lt.S.G. in the US. Navy. Discharged in 1946, he entered private practice with his brother, John Gall, in the Washington D.C. law firm Disney and Gall, including a practice in Indian law and land rights. It was in the nation's capital that Senate Majority Leader, Ken Wherry introduced Larry to an attractive Washington Post journalist, Winifred Belle Nelson Gall. It was a perfect match and the couple wed on December 18, 1948, in Upperville, Virginia. Moving his family to Houston in 1965, Larry became V.P. and General Counsel for the Transco Energy Company. As well, he served on the board of directors of National Alliance Businessman, the Texas Manufacturers Association, and the Texas Research League. As V.P. of Govt. Affairs for International Natural Gas Association, he helped guide the industry through times of transition. And he was an original board member of Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church. A devoted father, Larry appreciated and encouraged the unique strengths of his three surviving daughtersSally Gall (Stephens) of New York City, Linda Gall Silva of Claremont, California and Constance Gall Rhebergen of Houston. As a loving husband he supported the art and music interests of his late wife Win. And as grandfather he was proud of Kathleen "Katy" and Nathan Silva, and Kelsey and Brock Rhebergen. A memorial celebration of his life will be conducted at ten o'clock a.m. Saturday, August 5th, at The Hallmark, 4718 Hallmark Drive in Houston, with Rev. Victoria Jones officiating. The family would like to suggest any memorial gestures be made in Larry's name to the American Heart Association, 7272 Greenville Ave, Dallas, TX 75231-4596 or Alzheimer's Association, 2909 W.
