JOHN NEWMAN NEWELL WEDS GLASGOW GIRL

The following announcement of the marriage of John N. Newell to Miss Martha Shackelford on December 20 appeared in Thursday's issue of the Glasgow Missourian.

Announcement was made Saturday of the marriage of Miss Martha Shackelford of this place, and Mr. John Newell Neman of Kansas City, which took place in Liberty, Mo., on December 20th. The Rev. Chapman, pastor of the Methodist Church at Liberty was the officiating minister.

The bride is the only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Shackelford of this place, and is one of Glasgow's most talented and charming young ladies. Upon her graduation from the local high school, she attended Central College, majoring in vocal music. She also attended Chillicothe Business College for a time. Mrs. Newell's especial talent is her voice. Her lovely singing on many occasions has delighted audiences here and elsewhere. Her charming manner and pleasing personality endear her to all who know her.

Mr. Newell is the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Newell of Marshall, Mo., and the grandson of Mr. D. L. Brown of that place, who is a former Glasgow resident. Following his graduation at the Marshall High School, Mr. Newell attended St. John's Military Academy in Delafield, Wisconsin, Principia College in St. Louis, completing his education with three years at West Point. For some time he has held a position as engineer with the Butler Manufacturing Co., in Kansas City. He is a young man of high moral standing, well respected in the community in which he has spent the greater part of his life, and among the people in this place who have come to know him.

Mr. and Mrs. Newell left for Kansas City early Sunday morning and are at home to their friends at 900 East Armour, in that city.

John Newman Newell, 92, of Marshall, MO (formerly of Kansas City, MO), passed away Sunday, March 10, 2002, at Fitzgibbon Hospital, Marshall. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home, Marshall. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice. Survivors include two sons, John Houston Newell and James Alvin Newell, sister, Mildred Stauber, and brother, Dwight Newell.
