Obituaries

Marshall Republican, June 3, 19048961

Mrs. W. S. Newell died at her home in northwest Marshall at ten a. m. Sunday. Her death did not come as a surprise as it was known the nothing could be done by the most tender and skilled care that could prevent it, and the announcement came more as a relief to know that her intense sufferings were at an end. She was ministered to by many kind friends and relatives for many months and was no doubt comforted by the deep interest and sympathy manifested. The funeral services were conducted at the residence at 3 p. m. Monday afternoon, Rev. A. C. Spencer officiating, who made a short but very comforting talk to the sorrowing ones. "Asleep in Jesus" and several other vocal selections were touchingly rendered by the M. E. choir. A nicer and more appropriate day could not have been selected. A very large number of floral offerings covered the casket and floor beneath, calla lilies predominating. Following the services, the remains were laid to rest in Ridge Park cemetery.

Besides the large concourse of relatives and friends, the following from out of town attended the funeral: Mrs. Eleanor Huston, her mother; Mrs. James McClellan, Warsaw; Mrs. Daniel Bixler, Sweet Springs; Mrs. A. M. Irvine, Ft. Scott, Kansas; Miss Grace Huston, Malta Bend; Lawrence, J. and Sherman P. Huston, Malta Bend, sisters and brothers of Mrs. Newell. William Houston, of Kansas City, a cousin. Miss Catherine McCrary, of Decatur, Ill., also a cousin.

P. M. Walker, the undertaker, had charge of the funeral arrangements and in anticipation of rain had a tent erected over the grave.

We extend sympathy to the bereaved.
