PROMINENT RESIDENT OF SELMA PASSES AWAY

Mrs. Kate A. Orr Expires at Age of Sixty years, Following Extended Illness.

Mrs. Kate A. Orr, 60, a well known and highly respected woman of Selma and wife of C. M. Orr, mail clerk at Selma, died at her home yesterday morning, following a several weeks' illness. Mrs. Orr was born in Greencastle and had lived in Indianapolis, Richmond and Selma. She graduated from the Greencastle Seminary at the age of twenty.

She married C. M. Orr in 1875, the ceremony being performed by the Rev. Mr. Fiske, then president of the seminary. Following the marriage the couple resided in Richmond and Indianapolis and later made their home in Selma.

Member of Presbyterian Church

She was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Greencastle, and when she removed to Selma she transferred the membership to that church and she had been an active member ever since. She was a prominent member of the Selma Woman's Club, of which she acted as secretary for a long term.

She is survived by a husband, a sister-in-law, Mrs. William A. Sayre, two nieces, Miss Margaret H. Sayre, of Ashville, N.C., and Mrs. Mary S. Moore, of Knoxville, Tenn. and two nephews, B. F. Sayre of Ashville, N.C., and John S. Sayre, of Los Angeles, Cal.

The funeral services will be held at the residence in Selma, Wednesday afternoon at 12:30 o'clock. The body will be brought to this city and later taken to Richmond. Interment will be made in the Earlham Cemetery.

Funeral Party Will Arrive Here Wednesday Afternoon at 4:13.

Mrs. Kate Sayre Orr, wife of C. M. Orr, the well known mail clerk of Selma, Ind., died Monday morning at her home in Selma, Ind. Mrs. Orr was born June 17, 1853, at Greencastle, Ind. At the age of 20 the was graduated from the Greencastle Female Seminary, where she showed special talent in literary and language subjects. Throughout life she maintained an unflagging interest in literature and wrote many splendid sketches.

She was married to C. M. Orr, July 14, 1875, at Greencastle. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. Mr. Fiske, president of Greencastle seminary. Mr. and Mrs. Orr have lived in Richmond, Selma and Indianapolis, where they have hosts of friends.

Well Known Woman.

Mrs. Orr was well known for her generous treatment of friends and relatives. Her aged mother, Margaret Sayre, and her venerable uncle, James A. Scott, shared her home during the last years of their lives, and she educated her niece, Ruth Sayre, in the Muncie and Shortridge high schools.

She was a member of the Presbyterian church at Greencastle, until her marriage, when she joined the Selma United Presbyterian church. When she moved to Indianapolis in 1900 she and her husband became members of First Presbyterian church, where they still retain their letters.

Mrs. Orr, while in Indianapolis, was a member of the Research club and later joined the Selma Women's club. She has held the secretaryship of this latter club for a number of years.

Surviving Relatives.

She leaves a husband, a sister-in-law, the wife of her brother, William A. Sayre, and two nieces, Margaret H. Sayre, of Asheville, N. C., and Mrs. Mary S. Moore, of Knoxville, Tenn., and two nephews, B. F. Sayre of Asheville and John Scott Sayre, of Los Angeles.

Funeral services will be held at the C. M. Orr home in Selma at 12:30 Wednesday and burial will be made in the Earlham cemetery in Richmond.

Mrs. Orr was a niece of the late William Scott, of the firm of Gaar-Scott, manufacturers, a first cousin of Mrs. John B. Dougan, a niece of Mrs. John Scott, and a cousin of Harry Miller, all of Richmond.

The funeral party will arrive in Richmond Wednesday afternoon at 4:13 on the C. & 0. The body will be taken direct from the station to the cemetery.

PROMINENT MAN DIES AT SELMA

Charles M.Orr, 80, Succumbs at Family Home.

Charles M. Orr, 80, died at 4 o'clock yesterday afternoon at his home in Selma following a cerebral hemorrhage. He was a member of a prominent Delaware County family and was well know[n] in this city. Funeral services are to be conducted at 2:30 o'clock tomorrow afternoon from the residence.

Mr. Orr was the son of Senator James Orr and was the sixth child of a family of eight children. He was born August 23, 1850, in a log cabin four miles north of Selma in Delaware Township. Only one brother and one sister survive. They are Mrs. Mary R. Sparks of Rockford, Ill., and Joseph N. Orr, of Muncie.

Taught in Liberty Township

Judge Robert Murray is a nephew and Mrs. L. A. Pittenger, wife of the president of Ball State Teachers College, is a niece.

Mr. Orr retired several years ago from the railway postal service in which he was engaged for a period of forty-two years and during the last two years he had devoted his time in his interests as a landowner and in operating a hardware business in Selma. He was a member of the Selma M. E. Church.

Although he had been in impaired health for some time Mr. Orr's last illness and death was unexpected. As a young man Mr. Orr taught school in Liberty Township.

Burial in Earlham Cemetery.

He received his early education in the district school of Delaware Township and later attended old Asbury College in Greencastle, now the seat of DePauw University. His marriage in 1875 to Miss Kate A. Sayre, of Greencastle, was the culmination of a college romance. Mrs. Orr died June 30, 1913.

Mr. Orr was only a boy at the time of the Civil War but two of his elder brothers fought in the conflict and the Col. Samuel Orr Circle of the Ladies of the G. A. R. is named for one of them.

The funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. C. I. Roush, pastor of the Selma U. B. Church, and Dr. Claude H. King, pastor of High Street M. E. Church. Burial will be in Earlham Cemetery at Richmond.
