SELMA, Ind., November 10.—Judge James A. Scott, making his home here with a nephew, Charles M. Orr, is dead. He was born in 1820, coming to Richmond at an early age with his parents, and reading law in early manhood in the office of Judge Charles H. Test at Centerville. Oliver P. Morton was a fellow student. Judge Scott was admitted to the bar in 1840, and soon after removed to Florida, where he was elected judge, serving for many years. After his return to Indiana he settled at Greencastle, and in 1860 he was a Breckenridge elector in the Greencastle district, stumping the State for the democracy that year. Although a life-long Democrat, he repudiated Bryan in 1896 and refused to vote, but in the last election he insisted upon being carried to the polls, where he cast his ballot for McKinley. The burial will be had at Richmond on Monday.
