MR. AND MRS. JAY POWERS, Whiting, are celebrating their golden wedding anniversary Dec. 19. They will hold open house Dec. 19 from 1:30 to 4:p.m. at the Whiting Methodist church parlors for their friends and relatives. Both Mr. and Mrs. Powers are natives of this part of the state. They spent 45 years on a farm in the south Powhattan neighborhood north of Netawaka. They have lived in Whiting the last eight years. Their immediate family includes Mr. and Mrs. Walter Powers and their son, Norman of Council Grove. Mr. Powers is the present mayor of Whiting and has served as Whiting township trustee for the past four years.

HOLTON, Kas. (AP).—The toll in a two-car collision near here rose to five late yesterday with the death of a two-weeks-old baby. Four others are hospitalized.
Mrs. Esther Marie Wolfe, 20, Holton, and her three children, Leona Marie, 4; Lee William, 22 months, and Michael Allen, two weeks old, and Mrs. Erma Powers, 72, Whiting, were victims of the crash.
Michael Allen Wolfe died in a hosptial several hours after the crash. Mrs. Wolfe and Mrs. Powers died at the scene. Lee William Wolfe died en route to the hospital and Leona Marie Wolfe died shortly after arrival at the hospital.
Hospitalized were J. Preston Powers, 73, Whiting, husband of Mrs. Powers; Frank Mosher,51, Whiting, passenger in the Powers car; Mrs. Margi Lou Rawlings, 25, Holton, and her daughter, Cheryl Ann, 4. The latter two were passengers in the Wolfe car.
The condition of the injured was reported fair today.

Funeral services for Mrs. Erma Albright Powers, 70, wife of J. A. Powers of Whiting, who was killed in an automobile collision norht of Holton Monday, will be held at the Whiting Methodist church at 3 p.m. Friday.
The Rev. C. E. Nash of Whiting and the Rev. Paul Wesley of Council Grove will officiate. Burial will be in the Netawaka cemetery.
Her husband suffered a broken leg, facial cuts and other injuries in the accident and is a patient in the Holton hospital.
