She Was the Widow of William S. Reid and Leaves One Daughter, Mrs. B. B. Myrick, Jr.—The Funeral.
Mrs. Sarah J. Reid, widow of William S. Reid, died this morning at 5.30 o'clock at the home of her daughter, Mrs. B. B. Myrick, Jr., North Eleventh street. She has been an invalid for the past fifteen months, and for some time it has been known that her recovery was impossible. The funeral will take place Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the home, Rev. J. McD. Hervey, officiating.
Mrs. Reid was one of the pioneers of Richmond and Wayne county. She was born in Salisbur, the first county seat of the county, situated between Richmond and Centerville, in June, 1821. In 1839 she was married to William S. Reid, and a short time after moved to Fort Wayne, where they resided until 1852, when they returned to Richmond. She has resided here since that year. Mr. Reid died almost ten years ago. They were the parents of nine children, of whom Mrs. Myrick alone survives. Mrs. Reid has belonged to the United Presbyterian Church ever since its organization here, about forty-five years ago, and was prominent in church work. She was a liberal giver both to the church and to charity.

William S. Reid, an old and one of our best known citizens, died at 3 o'clock this morning, at his home at No. 326 north 11th street. Mr. Reid has long been a sufferer from ill health and death came as a relief to him. William S. Reid was for many years prominent in business matters in this city. After his marriage he devoted twelve years of his life to farming in Allen county. He then came to this city and was engaged in the dry goods business for three years. Then he went into the grocery and grain trade and was so engaged for a number of years. Subsequent to this he became one of the originators of the pork-packing business in this city. He was a ruling elder in the United Presbyterian church of this city and has long been known for his devotion to religion and Christianity. In all matters of business he was known as he was, a man of the strictest honesty and integrity. He was also a man of great public spirit and was always willing to give his support and assistance in all enterprises tending to better mankind and to upbuild society. he left two children surviving him. They are Mansur Reid and Mrs. B. B. Myrick, jr.
His daughter is now in Cincinnati, where an opeation was performed on her, and her husband fears the news of her father's death will seriously affect her. His brother and wife went to Cincinnati to-day to break the sad news to her. She will not be able to attend the funeral.
The funeral will take place from the U. P. church Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock.
