Mrs. D. M. Kunkle announces the marriage of her sister, Mildred E. Firebaugh, of Staunton, to Mr. Dwight E. Root, of Grottoes. The wedding took place Saturday, June 29, at seven-thirty in the Waynesboro First Presbyterian church. The Rev. c. H. Phipps performed the ceremony.

DWIGHT E. ROOT

WAYNESBORO — Dwight E. Root, 60, died at his home, 365 Magnolia Ave. at approximately 9 a.m. Saturday (May 29, 1965).

He was born April 8, 1905 in Grottoes, son of the late David Edgar and Florence Saufley Root.

Mr. Root was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Mildred F. Root; daughter, Mrs. James (Jane) Taylor of Chattanooga, Tenn.; sisters, Mrs. Ileta Hoy of Miami, Fla., and Mrs. Annabelle Walker of Falls Church; brother, Shirley B. Root of Falls Church; and a number of nieces and nephews.

The family has requested that flowers be omitted.

Funeral services will be held at the graveside in Mt. Horeb Presbyterian Church Cemetery Monday at four p.m., conducted by the Rev. H. Ruffner Lowman Jr.

The body will remain at the McDow-Tyree Funeral Home until the hour of service.

MRS. MILDRED ROOT

WAYNESBORO — Mrs. Mildred F. Root, 64, of 365 S. Magnolia Ave., Waynesboro died Sunday evening (May 30, 1971) at Johnson-Willis Hospital, Richmond.

Mrs. Root was the widow of Dwight E. Root, who died May 29, 1969.

She was born in Rockingham County May 29, 1907 and was a daughter of John and Lehlia (Rodgers) Firebaugh.

Mrs. Root had attended Peabody Conservatory and Madison College and had taught in Waynesboro public schools for 25 years. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. James E. Taylor of Richmond; two sisters, Mrs. J. M. Kunkle of Staunton and Mrs. H. R. Kaylor of Pleasant Valley; a brother, James R. Firebaugh of Dayton, and two grandsons.

Graveside services will be conducted at Edgewood Cemetery in Waynesboro 11 a.m. Wednesday by the Rev. Wentz Miller.

The body is at the McDow-Tyree Funeral Home in Waynesboro where the family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. today. The casket will not be opened.

The family requests flowers be omitted.
