SARAH HELEN CATHERINE SAWYER, daughter of DELOCIA CAMILLA HILLS and CHARLES HUMPHREY SAWYER, was born March 3, 1889 in Wagon Landing, Polk, Wisconsin,988 and died December 14, 1967 in Sunnyside, Yakima, Washington.988 She is buried in Tahoma Cemetery, Yakima, Yakima, Washington.456

She married LEE HARVEY ALEXANDER on August 16, 1907 in Prosser, Benton, Washington.5217 He was born March 8, 1885 in Nettleton, Caldwell, Missouri,7059 and died July 11, 1970 in Grandview, Yakima, Washington.12028 He is buried in Tahoma Cemetery, Yakima, Yakima, Washington.456

Local Pioneer Passes Away

Lee H. Alexander, 85, of Route 2, Sunnyside died in Grandview late Saturday, Jul 11.

Mr. Alexander was born in Saint Joseph, Mo., and as a boy he and his parents rode for property on the Cherokee Strip under the Homestead Act.

He came to the Valley in 1902 on an immigration train. In 1907 he married Helen C. Sawyer. They farmed in Sunnyside from 1917 until his retirement in 1954.

He and Mrs. Alexander celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary shortly before her death in December 1967. For the past two and one half years he has made his home with his daughter.

Survivors include his daughter Mrs. Albert R. (Vaneta) Peffers of Sunnyside; a son, Ray L. Alexander of Sunnyside, three granddaughters and 13 great grandchildren.

Funeral services for Alexander were held Wednesday, July 15, at 10 a.m. in Ball Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Arthur Schulz of the First Baptist Church officiating. Pall bearers were John Caruthers, Glen Smith, Frank Kirkham, All Pulley, Zane Smith, and Kenneth Smith. Interment will be in Tahoma Cemetery of Yakima with Ball Memorial Chapel in charge of arrangements.
