Mrs. John Scott celebrated her eighty-ninth birthday on Washington's birthday. She was surrounded by her friends and she passed the day quietly.
She is the last surviving member of the Sanitary Commission, appointed by Governor Morton during the war to administer relief in Richmond. There were four other Richmond women on the commission.
Mrs. Scott makes much of her birthdays because it is the same as that of George Washington and because she's had so many of them.
"It is one of the proud thoughts of my life that I can celebrate on the twenty-second of February every year," she said.
Friends Send Many Flowers
