He married MARY ELIZABETH DOERING on February 1, 1878 in Grundy Center, Grundy, Iowa.46 She was born February 17, 1858 in Lake County, Indiana,706 and died January 25, 1934 in McDonald Township, Jasper, Missouri.706 She is buried in Fasken Cemetery, Carthage, Jasper, Missouri.706

Carthage, Mo., Feb. 15.—Frank R. Shands, 71 years old, died at 3:30 o'clock this afternoon at his home, two mile northeast of Maple Grove. Death resulted from paralysis from which he had been suffering for several weeks.
Mr. Shands was born in Harrisonburg, Va., Aug. 5, 1851. He had resided in this county about fifty years. The family formerly resided in Carthage. His wife and five children survive. The children are Mrs. O. D. Fellers of Lebo, Kan.; Mrs. Lee Johnson of Avilla, Mrs. Elva Cofer of Arkansas City, Kan.; Buzz Shands of Seattle, Wash., and William Shands, who resides at his parents' home.
Funeral arrangements have not been completed.

Carthage, Mo., Jan. 28—Funeral plans are incomplete for Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Shands, 75 years old, a resident of this vicinity fifteen years, who died at 11 o'clock last night at the home of a daugher, Mrs. Lee Johnson, living twelve miles northeast of Carthage on Reeds route 1.
Mrs. Shands was stricken suddenly last night and died as a physician arrived. She had been in good health. She was born February 17, 1858, in Lake county, Indiana. She was the widow of Frank Shands, who died in 1923. She was a member of the Methodist church.
Surviving, beside the daughter at whose home she died, are two other daughters, Mrs. Edna Sellers of Lebo, Kan., and Mrs. M. S. Phelps of Alva, Okla.; a son, E. A. Shands of New Plymouth, Ida., a halfsister, Mrs. George Bainbridge of Kingsley, Ia., and thirteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
