MR. EDITOR:—Your daily of yesterday morning, reported, among many others, the death of George C. Shedd, Company I, 30th Iowa Volunteers, killed in one of the five days' battles before Vicksburg. He was the third and youngest son of James A. Shedd, of Denmark, Iowa, was born in Dayton, Ohio, and was 19 years of age. He was the last of the three brothers to enter the service voluntarily, at their country's call. George was a loving and beloved son and brother—a good boy, and a brave and gallant soldier—was a corporal in his company, and was early chosen one of the standard bearers of his regiment. We do not know as yet, the particulars of his death, but we feel sure he died at his post, doing his duty. He leaves a wide circle of friends and relatives to mourn his loss. He is another "brave boy" that has fallen for his country—a worthy sacrifice. His aged and infirm father, with a full heart, says the cause is with the sacrifice. May our country never forget the "brave boys that fall."
