FUNERAL OF MRS. SKELTON

Held Monday Morning at Mt. Carmel, Church, Conducted by Rev. Owens

Funeral services for Mrs. P. A. Skelton, who passed away at her home in Fairville Saturday night at 11:30 o'clock were held Monday at the Mt. Carmel Methodist Episcopal church at 10:30 o'clock, conducted by the pastor, Rev. Owens.

Lily Augusta Carpenter Skelton was born September 2, 1858 on a farm which her grandfather, James F. Irvine, homesteaded when he came to Missouri from Virginia, located six miles north of Marshall, now known as the James H. Irvine farm. She was the daughter of Mollie E. and E. S. Carpenter. She was one of two children, the other being a sister, Mrs. Mittie Sisson, who lives at Bonham, Texas.

Her mother died when she was six years old and she was reared by her uncle, Robert R. Irvine, at whose home she was given in marriage to P. A. Skelton of Virginia, September 5, 1882. The first five years of their wedded life was spent in Virginia. They came to Marshall in 1888 and lived here until 1891 when they moved to Fairville, where they have since resided, Mr. Skelton being in the mercantile business there.

One child was born to this union, Robert W. Skelton, who makes his home with his parents. Mrs. Skelton is also survived by her husband and the sister, Mrs. Sisson, and a number of cousins.

She had been in failing health for the past two years and had been confined to her bed since March. Her condition had been critical for some time and death was not unexpected. She had borne her long suffering with great fortitude, never murmuring or complaining of her lot.

Mrs. Skelton was a consecrated member of the Mt. Carmel church. She will be remembered by her loves ones, friends and neighbors, for her outstanding love and ministrations to all with whom she came in contact. She was a devoted wife and mother. When her health permitted she was constantly doing some kind deed to a member of the community, regardless of race or creed whether rich or poor, or extending her home to the wayfarer, often to an inconvenience to her own household. But it gave her great joy to be doing something for others and in practicing the golden rule.

The boy was interred in Mt. Carmel cemetery, where a wealth of floral offerings attested the high esteem of relatives and friends.

Those from a distance who attended the services were: J. W. Skelton of Falls City, Nebr.; Mr. and Mrs. Luther Skelton of Kansas City; Mr. and Mrs. James Rucker and Mrs. Martha Irvine of Blackwater.
