Miss Dorothy Lou Johnson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Johnson of Carthage route 2, and Corporal Clyde E. Slates, U. S. army, son of Mr. and Mrs. George E. Slates, 702 Cedar street, were married Wednesday night in Columbus, Kan. The Rev. Clyde D. Lindsley, pastor of the Columbus Christian church, performed the ceremony. Corporal Slates has been in the service since last April 13 and recently completed a course at Camp Murphy, Fla. He arrived here Wednesday morning and is to report January 13 at Robins Field, Ga. Mrs. Slates will remain here with his parents for the present.

Mrs. Clyde Slates, the former Miss Dorothy Johnson who was married recently, was guest of honor at a miscellaneous shower Friday night at the home of her mother, Mrs. Frank Holmes, on Carthage route 1. Prizes at bingo were won by Mrs. Ivan Shaw, Mrs. Allen Carter and Miss Edith Slates. Valentine refreshments were served.
