Work has not yet been started on the Lake Erie & Youngstown railroad. W. F. Stanley, who will be head of the construction work, is quoted in the Conneaut News-Harold as stating that all the stories which have been circulated regarding the starting of the work at Andover are hot air, pure and simple.

Obituaries

Yesterday afternoon as the descending sun shed its rays of softened light through the windows of the Congregational church the friends of Alice Gould Stanley gathered to pay their last tribute to her memory.

Mrs. Stanley's residence on Buffalo street had been opened to her friends earlier in the afternoon where they viewed her earthly remains in their last sleep, embanked in flowers from loving friends.

At her home at that time gathered the older residents of our city who had known her from her childhood through her girlhood days, married and widowed life, all of which had been spent here.

Mrs. Stanley was born in Conneaut June 16th, 1853 the daughter of Mary Silverthorn and Loren Gould, at the old home on Monroe Street.

Her mother's as well as her father's family were of the early pioneer stock of western New York and Pennsylvania and came to Conneaut in the early forties.

May 9th, 1872 she was united in marriage to Wilbur Fisk Stanley, whose activities in the welfare of our city for a lifetime are too well known to need mention.

She was a member of the Congregational Church and was prominent in all its activities, as well as the Friday Club, Nineteenth Century Club, Order of the Eastern Star, and Woman's Relief Corps.

Rev. Rankin in his eulogy of her life laid stress on her loyalty to friend and kin as well as her activity in all that was for the good of our city.

A sister, Jennie G. Way of Riverside, Calif., and a brother James L Gould of Rayne, LA, together with a large number of more distant relatives, survive to do honor to her memory.

Daniel S. Stanley, William Holliday, Mrs. Mary Holliday, and Mrs. C.F. Eiler, of Cleveland, Mr. and Mrs. J.B Reig and daughter Catherine of Orange, Mass., Mrs. Nettie Lamb, of Erie, and Mrs. Ritter Stone, of Geneva, Ohio, attended the services from out of town.

Interment was made in the family lot in Glenwood cemetery.
