Clayton Stephenson

ALBANY — Clayton L. Stephenson, 65, died at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the home of his son-in-law, Ledell Swenson near Brodhead. He had suffered a heart ailment.

The son of Byron and Lydia Sutherland Stephenson, he was born July 15, 1891, in the Town of Sylvester. He was married to Genevieve Broughton March 24, 1921, in Albany. They lived on a farm west of here for 26 years before moving to the village 10 years ago. At the time of his death he was employed by the Baker Mfg. Co., Evansville.

Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Ledell Swenson; his mother, Mrs.Lydia Stephenson, Albany; a brother Byron, of Albany; three sisters, Mrs. Stanly Ross, rural Janesville, Mrs. Olive Peterson and Mrs. Frank Schwerin Albany, and two grandchildren. A son preceded him in death.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Sharer Funeral Home, the Rev. Burton Moore, First Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Arthur Maikow, Evansville, O. D. Grenswald, Elmer Maurmann, John Sucharski, A. H. Meinert and Lawrence Dunphy, all of Evansville. Truman Olin, Brodhead will give the song service, accompanied by Mrs. T. E. Sharer. Friends may call at the funeral home this evening.

Mrs. Genevieve "Grandma Gen" j. Stephenson, 82, of Brodhead, died Sunday in Pleasant View Nursing Home, Monroe.

Born June 25, 1902, in Attica, the former Genevieve Broughton married Clayton Stephenson on March 24, 1922, in Albany. He died Aug. 4, 1956. Prior to moving to Albany in 1950, Mrs. Stephenson and her husband farmed. She was formerly employed as a homecare giver and cleaned for various private and nursing homes.

Surviving are a daughter, Eva Swenson of Brodhead; three grandchildren; four great-granddaughters; a brother, David Broughton of Albany; and a sister, Helen Sellnow of Brodhead.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in Gohike's Sharer Funeral Home, Albany, with burial in Hillcrest Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
