Ross Stephenson

ALBANY—Ross Dudley Stephenson, 56, for many years a farmer in this area, died at 1 p.m. Friday in his home after a year's illness.

He was born in the Town of Albany Feb. 28, 1898, the son of Byron and Lydia Sutherland Stephenson. He married Helen Abey Dec. 25, 1924, the ceremony being performed by the Rev. Alfred Nimz in the Methodist parsonage. For 28 years they farmed in Albany township, moving to the village four years ago.

Surviving are his wife; his aged mother, Mrs. Byron Stephenson, Albany; three sisters, Mrs. Stanley Ross, Janesville, Mrs. Frank Schwerin and Mrs. Olive Peterson, both of Albany; two brothers, Clayton and Byron, both of Albany. His father died March 16, 1947.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Sharer Funeral Home, with Bruce Willett, student pastor of the Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. The song service will be by Mrs. John Christopher and Mrs. Gerald Heitzman, accompanied by Mrs. T. E. Sharer. Pallbearers will be George Sarow, Earl Elmer, both of Evansville; Douglas Stephenson, Fred Frehner, both of Albany, and Ledell Swenson, Brodhead. Friends may call at the funeral home Saturday evening.

Mrs. Ross Stephenson

ALBANY—Mrs. Ross Stephenson, 62, was found dead Wednesday in her home here.

Coroner Richard A. Wagner of Monroe said death resulted from hanging and issued a certificate of suicide. Time of death was set at 6 p.m.

The former Helen Wesmer was born March 1, 1904, in Brooklyn Township, the daughter of Albert and Elsie Wesmer Abey. She was married Dec. 25, 1925, to Ross Stephenson, in Albany. He died Jan. 6, 1956. She had been a lifelong area resident and had taught school at English Settlement rural school and at Peebles. The couple farmed for 28 years until retiring in 1953. Mrs. Stephenson had been employed at the Sharer Furniture Store and the Edgewater Cafe. She was a member of the Methodist Church.

Surviving are a brother, Fred, Evansville; two sisters, Mrs. Edward hallmark, Evansville, and Mrs. John Hall, Janesville. A brother and a sister predeceased her.

Services will be at 2 p.m. tomorrow at the Sharer Funeral Home, the Rev. Burton Artz, Methodist Church, and the Rev. Bruce Willett, formerly of Albany, officiating. Burial in Hillcrest Cemetery. Friends may call the afternoon and evening at the funeral home.
