Albany—(Times Special Service)—Byron Eugene Stephenson, Sr., 81, died at his home here last evening at 6:30 after a week illness. He was born Sept. 17, 1865, in Sylvester, son of Nathaniel and Nancy Harris Stephenson and was married Dec. 23, 1888, to Lydia Sutherland, with whom he farmed until moving into the village 18 years ago.
Mrs. Stephenson survives, as do three sons, Clayton, Ross and Byron Jr., Albany; three daughters, Mrs. Olive Peterson, Mrs. Ethel Schwerein, Albany and Mrs. Wilma Ross, Janesville, five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at the Sharer funeral home Wednesday afternoon at 2 with Rev. W. F. Snow, Brooklyn, officiating and burial in Hillcrest cemetery. Pallbearers will be Henry Rhyner, Baltz Bagley, Fred Schultz, Robert Smiley, Claude Mathems and Frank Steindorf.

ALBANY—Mrs. Byron Stephenson, 95, Albany's oldest resident, died at 5:45 p.m. Wednesday at her home here.
The former Lydia Sutherland, daughter of Eric and Charlotte Ball Sutherland, pioneer settlers of Sylvester Township, was born April 26, 1870. She was married to Byron Stephenson, Dec. 23, 1888. They farmed in the Albany area before retiring and moving to the village.
She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Olive Peterson and Mrs. Ethel Schwerin, Albany, and Mrs. Wilma Ross, rural Janesville; one son, Byron Jr., of Albany; five grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
Her husband and three sons, Clayton, Ross and Leon, predeceased her.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Sharer Funeral Home, the Rev. Dennis Hahn, First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Friday afternoon and evening.
