Arick Sutherland

BRODHEAD — Arick Sutherland, 57, of 336 Norris Court, Madison, a native of Brodhead, died Sunday in a Madison hospital.

Mr. Sutherland owned and operated the D and S Superette grocery in Madison and was a member and past president of the South Side Optimists Club.

Surviving are his wife; Hazel; a son and a daughter, both of Madison; two grandchildren; two sisters and three brothers.

A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. tomorrow in Forest Hill Cemetery. There is no visitation.

MADISON/MAZOMANIE — Hazel V. Sutherland, age 83, died on Friday, June 2, 1995 at Heartland Country Village in Black Earth. She was born on September 5, 1911 in Orfordville, Wisconsin, a daughter of Halver and Cora (Barsness) Staven. On June 23, 1936, she married Arick Sutherland in Rock Island, Illinois. He preceded here in death in 1967. She was a resident at the Capital Center in Madison since 1982. Hazel is survived by her children, Judy (Dick) Rhoads of Lake Worth, Florida and Dean (Cheri) Sutherland of Mazomanie; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and further survived by other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; two brothers, William Staven and Harold Staven; and a sister, Claudine Hersey. Private burial will be held in Forest Hill Cemetery. The family suggests that memorials may be made to Dane County Library System.
