George John Traudt

LINCOLN CITY — George John Traudt, 80, died Tuesday in Lincoln City.

He was born in Weatherford, Okla. He moved to Canby in 1946 and to Lincoln City in 1969. He was a member of the American Association of Retired Persons and the Congregational Church in Lincoln City. He was a schoolteacher for many years and also was an ordained minister.

Survivors include his wife, Vera; son, Donald George, Downey, Calif.; daughter, Wanda Cogswell, Damascus; brother, Reinhold, Brea, Calif.; and sisters, Verdie Moore, Hillsboro, and Sophie Schrieber, Virginia Beach, Va.

Memorial services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at the Congregational Church in Lincoln City. Arrangements are under the direction of Omsberg's Pacific Mortuary.

Contributions may be made to the Congregation Church building fund.

A memorial service for Vera Maude Traudt of Clackamas will be at 3 p.m. Sunday in Clackamas United Church of Christ.

Mrs. Traudt died of complications arising from diabetes Thursday in her home. She was 83.

She was born July 27, 1906 in McCloud, Oklahoma, where she was raised and educated. Her maiden name was Wells. She attended a teacher's college in Oklahoma and taught elementary school for a number of years. She married George Traudt on May 18, 1936, in Oklahoma.

The couple moved to Canby in 1946. They lived in Clackamas for many years until they retired and moved to Lincoln City in 1969. She moved back to Clackamas after her husband's death in the mid 1980s. She was a member of the Clackamas United Church of Christ.

Survivors include her son, Ronald of Rosemead, California; daughter, Wanda Cogswell of Clackamas; brothers, Verl Wells of Clackamas and S.J. Wells of Portland; sisters, Audrey Phillips of Yakima, Washington, and Joyce Cushman of Gaston; and five granddaughters.

Disposition was by cremation.

The family suggests that remembrances be contributions to the United Church of Christ or the Oregon Affiliate of the American Diabetes Association.

Her husband, George Traudt, was born in Norka, Russia.
