News was received, this week, of the passing of Curtis Lee Webb, 75, of Clarinda, Iowa. Webb passed away Thursday, Feb. 13, at the Clarinda Municipal Hospital. Curtis, known to most in this community as "Buck", was born in Hopkins on April 2, 1910, to Oscar and Nancy Jane (Davison) Webb.
He married Pauline Evelyn Edwards on Mar. 14, 1933. They had four sons and one daughter, James Edward of Carpentersville, Ill., Gary Lee, Robert Curtis and Valarie Jean Mace, all of Clarinda, Iowa. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 3 great-grandsons.
Webb, was the town marshall in Hopkins in 1935-36 and again in the early 50's. His experience as marshall in the 30's was told in the October 9, 1985, edition of The Hopkins Journal. As marshall in the 50's he was on duty when Hopkins was struck by a tornado, and was preparing to tell his experiences of that event in a future edition. Webb had said he was exceptionally proud of the people in Hopkins after that disaster.
A graduate of Hopkins High School, he played basketball under Vance Geiger. He is pictured with the team in the Dec. 4, 1985, edition of The Hopkins Journal. Webb was a dear friend of many in Hopkins, and of this newspaper. He had many interesting stories to tell, unfortunately, now they can never be told again.
Services were at the Walker-Merrick Funeral Home, Clarinda, Iowa, last Saturday. Burial was in the Hopkins Cemetery.
