Mr. and Mrs. Charles McCarty of Raymond, Alberta, Canada, announce the engagement of their daughter, Marjoier to DeVoe Woolf of Cardston, Canada. The marriage will take place about Christmas. Mr. Woolf is a son of Martin Woolf, M. P. P., of Alberta. Miss McCarty is at present the guest of her brother, Wilson McCarty, in this city.

DeVoe Woolf, 60, prominent Salt Lake educator and principal of South high school since 1931, died Friday at 3:28 a.m. in a Salt Lake hospital of a heart attack.
Mr. Woolf had served in education administration capacities nearly 40 years and was well known by thousands of young men and women who have benefited by his sound counsel and advice.
He was born Oct. 14, 1887, in Cache valley, a son of Martin and Roseltha Hyde Woolf. His father was also an educator. In 1907 Mr. Woolf was graduated from the high school at Lethbridge, Alta., Canada, and in 1910 from the Alberta Normal college.
He received his L.L.B. degree from the University of Chicago in 1916, and his L.L.M. degree from Hamilton college in Chicago in 1925. In 1934 he obtained his M.S. degree in education from the Brigham Young university. He had also done graduate work at the University of Alberta, the University of Utah, Stanford University and the University of California.
His school career began in 1910 when he became assistant principal at Cardston, Alta., Canada, and he held that position until 1918. Until 1920 he was head of the department of mathematics of the Knight academy, Raymond, Alta., and from 1920 to 1924 was principal of the Raymond high school.
Coming to Salt Lake City in 1924, he became assistant principal of East high school, and a year later became prinicpal of South junior high school. He remained there until South high school was completed in 1931, when he became the first principal of the school.
Mr. Woolf was a member of the Utah Education Assn., the National Education Assn., and teh Salt Lake Kiwanis club. He was a former member of the Canadian Amateur Athletic Assn. from 1910 to 1924, and served on the national board of that organization from 1921 to 1924. He was a former member of the Alberta Education Assn., serving as president of that group in 1920-1921.
He married Marjorie McCarthy Dec.23, 1914. Mr. Woolf was a brother-in-law of Wilson McCarthy, president of the Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad Co.
Mr. Woolf was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was a high priest in the 27th LDS ward.
Survivors include his widow; the following sons and daughters: Mrs. Harold F. Greene, North Hollywood, Cal.; Mrs. Eugene S. Nichold, Salt Lake City; DeVoe M. Woolf, Schenedady, N. Y.; Richard M., Charles M., Robert M., and John M. Woolf, all of Salt Lake City, and five grandchildren.
Also surviving are the following brothers and sisters: Martin Woolf, Browning, Mont.; Mrs. George W. Brimhall, Provo; J. F. Woolf, Oakland, Cal.; Dr. Golden Woolf, Provo; Vernon H. Woolf, Cardston, Alberta, Canada; L. K. Woolf, Salt Lake City, and Mrs. E. W. Eldredge, Olympia, Wash.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday in Twenty-seventh L D S ward chapel, 185 P st. Interment will be in Wasatch Lawn Memorial park.
