Mrs. Ramsey, 52, Dies; Rites Thursday

Mrs. Lillian Belle Ramsey, 52, 904 W. Howard St., died Monday a 7 p.m. at Mercy Hospital at Champaign. She had been ill several months.

Her funeral will be Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at the Raleigh J. Harris Funeral Home, with the Rev. Herman Lehman of St. Paul's Lutheran Church at Rowe officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Raliegh J. Harris Funeral Home.

Mrs. Ramsey was born March 16, 1917 at Secor, a daughter of Samuel and Clara (Gieslman) Cooper. She was educated in Secor and Odell schools. She was married to Howard Ramsey at Pontiac on Dec. 11, 1948.

She had been empoyed at Nation Wide Mfg. Co.

Surviving are her husband; two sons, Mike and Danny, at home; four daughters, Cynthia, at home; Mrs. Wallace (Lorraine) Winchester, Inglewood, Calif.; Mrs. Edwin (Ann) Crouch, Sacramento, Calif.; Mrs. Ed (Marolyn) Pliskey, Michigan City, Ind.; two brothers, Ira Cooper, Odell, and Virgil Cooper, Chicago; five sisters, Mrs. John Dennis, Hillsdale; Mrs. Marvin Harste, Streator; Mrs. Donald Schott, Pontiac; Mrs. Opal Ward, Morris, and Mrs. Gene Gilmore, Rock Island, and four granchildren.

Her parents, a sister and a brother preceded her in death.

Howard Ramsey

PONTIAC - Howard Ramsey, 74, of Pontiac, a highly decorated World War II veteran, died at 10:20 p.m. Saturday (Sept. 15, 1990) at his residence. He had been in failing health the past two years.

His funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Raleigh J. Harris Funeral Home, Pontiac, the Rev. Craig Wagner officiating.

Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Pontiac. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home, where Masonic rites will be accorded.

He was born March 18, 1916, in Detroit, Mich., a son of Lewis and Myrtle Street Ramsey. He married Ferol Bridges Nov. 27, 1937, in Kentland, Ind. He later married Lillian Lewis Dec. 11, 1948, in Pontiac. She died Aug. 11, 1969.

Survivors include two daughters, Diane Howard and Cindy Rieck, both of Pontiac; two sons, Mike, Fairbury, and Dan, Pontiac; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; four brothers, Russell, Chula Vista, Calif.; Ronald, Pompano Beach, Fla.; Robert, of Morris; and Marshall, Pontiac; and six sisters, Ann Bush, Pompano Beach, Fla.; Rebecca Grider and Bonnie Spence, both of Chenoa; Mildred Buck, Lansing; and Virginia Homme and Dorothy Rohlfs, both of Pontiac.

A brother preceded him in death.

He was educated in Pontiac schools and was a plaster contractor for over 30 years. He also served 22 years as a maintenance craftsman at Pontiac Correctional Center before retiring in 1985.

He formerly had been a city alderman, Republican Precinct 8 committeeman, and city and county police officer.

He served in the 129th Infantry during World War II from 1941 to 1945. He fought in the battles of Guadal Canal, Northern Solomons, and the Luzon Campaign. He was awarded the Good Conduct Ribbon, the American Defense Service Ribbon, the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon with three Bronze Battle Stars.

He was also awarded the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Star and also five overseas service bars.

He was a member of the VFW, Masonic Lodge 294, Samaria White Shrine, and the Red Fez Shrine Club, all of Pontiac; the Scottish Rites, Bloomington, York Rite, Mohammed Shrine, Peoria, American Legion-Voiture 818, and the Cornbelt Shrine Club, Gibson City.
