Obituaries

Bayard Transcript, March 27, 19477827

DEATH TAKES VERY HIGHLY RESPECTED CITIZEN, MONDAY

LIFE ENDED AS A RESULT OF AUTO ACCIDENT ON SUNDAY MORNING

Howard George Reynolds was born August 25, 1883, at Ashland, Nebraska, the son of George and Laura Stanley Reynolds and the youngest of a family of five children. He departed this life Monday, March 24, at the age of 63 years 7 months as a result of an auto accident.

He attended the schools at Ashland, Nebraska and here grew to manhood. On Sept. 25, 1906, he married Alice B. Clark and brought his bride to Western Nebraska homesteading eight miles north of Bayard. To this union 4 children, Walter Clifford, Evelyn Alta, Clark Falmer and Pauline Etah, were born.

In 1918 the family moved to Bayard. For many years Howard served as foreman for the Tri-State Irrigation, later operating a trucking business and at the time of his death was employed by the Dutton Implement Company.

Howard was a lover of home life and real life companion to his wife and children. He loved flowers, fine literature and the beautiful things of life.

During the great revival held by Evangelist D. E. Olson in the Bayard Church of Christ, Howard became a Christian and was baptized into Christ February 2, 1932. While the greater portion of his life had been lived, he was determined from now on to redeem the time and make his life count for Christian service. He loved God's Words, the Bible. And through constant and diligent study of this book became a power for good.

His was a character sweetened and strengthened by a personal relation of loyalty to God, built upon the foundation of truth, righteousness and justice. In his quiet, unassuming way, through his faithfulness and loyalty, he was among us as one who ministered, never thinking of being ministered unto. His life was a sermon and a benediction.

Any church may be grateful and take heart and go forward with good courage that has been instrumental in shaping such a life as his. Freely he received of spiritual strength and freely he gave everything that he could for the richest upbuilding of Christ's Kingdom.

For 8 years he served as an elder in the Church, mindful of the deep privilege and obligations in this service. For 8 years he served as Bible School Superintendent, guiding activities of all through a deep and prayerful study of the Lord's Way.

He had an 8 year unbroken record for Sunday School attendance.

Today we are asking "Who can take his place?" And may I say we must take his place, not to do his work, that is done—well done—but to do our work with the willingness, the fidelity, the cheerfulness, the loyalty to principle with which he accomplished the tasks. He was among us as one who served. He has done what he could. Of his death, of this sudden, unexpected and to us inexpressibly sad passing, we can only say tis:

Thy life is now beyond

The reach of death of change

Not ended—but begun

O Noble Soul

He leaves to mourn his love, his faithful life companion; his four children, Walter of Greeley, Colo.; Evelyn Rogers of Mitchell, Nebr.; Pauline Kearney of Tokyo, Japan, stationed with her family in the Occupation Camp. One sister, Marion, and brother Myron, both of Bayard. Twelve grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

Services were held Thursday afternoon at 2:00 P. M. and internment was made in the Bayard Cemetery.
