Marriage Announcements and News

Muncie Sunday Star, July 24, 19275823

A wedding of unusual interest and one which comes as a surprise to the many friends of the bride is that of Miss Caroline Pierce, charming daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Pierce, of West Howard street, and Robert S. Allingham, the son of Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Allingham, of Boston, Mass. The wedding was solemnized Sunday, July 3, at the First Presbyterian Church in Franklin, with the Rev. George Miller performing the single ring ceremony. Mr. and Mrs. Allingham were attended by Miss Kathryn Schmidt and Charles Guteliem, of Indianapolis, both schoolmates of the bridal couple at DePauw University at Greencastle. Mr. and Mrs. Allingham left yesterday afternoon for New York, and after a few days' stay there, they will take the boat to Boston, Mass. They will reside at 45 Hinkley road, Walbou, Mass., where the bridegroom is employed with the Stern Brothers Wholesale Linen Importers Company of Boston. The bride is one of the city's charming and talented young women and is identified with the city's younger social set. She was graduated from the local high school and from DePauw University at Greencastle last month. While in college she was one of the outstanding students on the campus, being a member of the Alpha Omicron Pi, Pi Epsilon delta sororities and several honorary dramatic organizations. She had a leading part in this year's "May Day Play" at DePauw and has taken leading parts in numerous dramatic events during her four years' college work. The bridegroom is a member of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity at DePauw and of the Boston Theater Guild, of Boston, Mass. Their marriage is a culmination of a college romance, both having been students at DePauw University.

Eastern Writer Sketches Muncie Woman In Series

Mrs. Robert Allingham, formerly Miss Caroline Pierce, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wesley C. Pierce of Muncie, is the subject of one of a series of sketches, "Our Gracious Ladies," currently appearing in the Boston Traveler. Mrs. Allingham, who now resides in Massachusetts, visited in Munice last summer and presented a program at the Y. W. C. A. for a local organization.

The sketch describing her, written by Natalie Gordon, follows: "Lissome, with a quick smile, hair parted in the middle and a dimple in her chin, Mrs. Robert S. Allingham was bron in Indiana . . . Won her A. B. from DePauw Univeristy and did graduate work at Northwester in dramatic art and public speaking ... Mother of a 13-year-old son, Bobby, and a small blonde daughter, Wesley, her home is her career; her hobby lecturing before clubs and charitable organizations on costumes of foreign countries, her lectures based on intensive research and the costumes of the country featured in the political limelight . . . The Americas for Americans her phobia, she spent last summer in Mexico City gathering material for her lectures this winter . . . Although a member of International Institution, she is not a natural joiner, chiefly because she hasn't the time . . . Especially proud of her old-fashioned garden where lilacs and bachelor buttons thrive, she hates the 'fly-by-night' decor, and her apartment is filled with simple antiques, hooked rugs, etc. . . . A fair cook, she dislikes ordinary housework and spends what leisure she gets in keeping up with the latest travel books and news periodicals . . . Pet annoyances are the telephone and frowsily dressed women . . . Impeccably groomed herself, wears black and white almost entirely and seeks for the 'individual' in clothes . . . Dislikes jewelry (even dispenses with her wedding ring) and her only affection is a talisman bracelet . . . With an amazing capacity for hard work, she is apt to go without meals when interested in some project . . . Definitely not a linguist, nevertheless speaks French and 'some' Spanish; her voice is clear, highly pitched, and she laughs frequently when conversing . . . Her sense of humor A-1, her worst fault is over-enthusiasm and her 'one-track' mind oftimes a liability . . . Inclined to be impatient, she is extremely frank and honest, personally attractive, keenly intelligent, and a delightful companion."
