ROY W. BAILEY IS VICTIM OF MONOXIDE GAS

Drug Firm Credit Manager Found Dead in Garage at Home

A coroner's report today gave carbon monoxide gas as the accidental cause of the death Monday of Roy William Bailey, credit manager of the Brown Drug company. Mr. Bailey was found dead in the garage at the rear of his home, 700 South First ave., by his wife at 5:55 p. m. Monday.

The body was found on the floor between the rear of the car and the garage doors. A tire pump was hooked up to the left rear tire which was flat, an indication that he was pumping up the tire when he was stricken.

The ignition was turned on but the motor was cold and was not running, according to Police Detective Norman Larson. This at first tended to disprove the carbon monoxide theory, but a later blood test proved that gas had caused the death.

The report further showed that Mr. Bailey died sometime between 4:30 and 5 p. m. Larson said Mrs. Bailey returned from a trip downtown at 5 p. m. and after she noticed the door leading from the house to the garage was open and the car in the garage, she investigated.

When she discovered the body, she notified Lieut. Joe Wilcox at police headquarters.

Services will be held at 12:30 p. m. Thursday at the Graf funeral home and at 2:30 p. m. Thursday at the First Presbyterian church at Flandreau. Rev. Clarence W. Adams will officiate at both times. Interment will be made at Flandreau.

Mr. Bailey came to Sioux Falls in 1927. He had been credit manager of the Brown Drug company for the past seven years. He was a member of the Elks club here and played in the municipal band.

Previous to coming here he had operated a garage at Flandreau from 1913 to 1927. He was a past master of Blue lodge No. 11 of the Masonic order there. He was Moody county treasurer for four years.

Mr. Bailey was born September 22, 1884, at Egan. He attended school and made his home there until 1913, doing general farming before moving to Flandreau.

He was married to Phoeba Wilka, March 6, 1907.

Surviving are the widow; two daughters, Mrs. Grant Carter and Evelyn Bailey, and two grandchildren, all of Sioux Falls.
