Mr. Martin Ballou and Miss Mildred Manley were quietly married in Council Bluffs Saturday, May 10. hey were accompanied to Council Bluffs by Mr. and Mrs. George Tarpenning, an aunt and uncle of the groom who are visiting from Oklahoma. Martin is the only son of Mr. and Mrs. James Ballou. He is a graduate of the Ashland High school class of 1922, and also of the Lincoln Business collete. He bride's home was at Fort Calhoun, where she was a teacher in the city school. The young couple will make their home on the James Ballou farm, they having rented it for the coming year. Martin has a host of friends in this vicinity who wish him and his bride prosperity and happiness in their journey though life.

Martin E. Ballou, 45, 3032 Stratford, a former farmer and gravel contractor at Ashland, died Thursday.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred of Lincoln; sons, Martin E., jr., James E. and Eugene M., all of Lincoln; daughters, Mrs. Duane P. Olson of Sioux Falls, S.D., Mary and Jessie, both of Lincoln; parents, Mr. and Mrs. James B. Ballou of Ashland, and two grandchildren.
THE FUNERAL will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Ashland. Burial also will be at Ashland.
Mr. Ballou was born Sept. 3, 1903, at Belgrade, Neb., and moved with his parents to Ashland when he was quite young. He lived in Ashland until three years ago when he retired.
After retiring, Mr. Ballou spent one year in California and then moved to Lincoln.
HE WAS A MEMBER of First Plymouth Congregational church, the Co-Operative club, the Masonic lodge at Ashland, and the Scottish Rite and Shrine at Omaha. Mr. Ballou attended the Lincoln Business college in 1922.
He had been ill for several years before his death.
