Florence Sturges Dow, 83, 623 Avenue D., Ft. Madison, died at 6:15 p.m. Wednesday, Feb.26, at her home.
She was born July 13, 1902, at Denmark, to Asa and Mary Leverett Houston. She married Dr. H.G. Dow on Oct. 12, 1928, at Denmark.
She spent most of her life in Ft. Madison. She was a 1925 graduate of Iowa State College, Ames, a member of the Alpha Pi Delta Sorority and a former school teacher in Vandalia, Mo. She was a member of the Union Presbyterian Church, the United Presbyterian Women's Association, and was a charter member of the Ft. Madison Council of Camp Fire Girls.
Surviving are her husband; one son, Dr. James R. Dow, Santa Barbara, Calif.; one daughter, Mrs. Dorothy (Robert) Sorensen, Bloomington, Minn.; four grand-children; and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Dow's body has been cremated. Memorial services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, March 8, at the Union Presbyterian Church, Ft. Madison, with the Rev. Marvin Potter officating.
A memorial has been established for the Union Presbyterian Church. Contributions may be made at the church or at Barr Memorial Chapel, Ft. Madison.

Dr. Hartwell Guy Dow, 89, of the Vista Del Monte Retirement Home, Santa Barbara, Calif., formerly of Fort Madison, died Oct. 5, 1990, in Santa Barbara.
Born Nov. 7, 1900, in Denmark, Iowa, he was the son of Jonas Edward and Mary Eva Wilder Dow. He married Florence Sturges Houston Oct. 12, 1928, in Denmark, Iowa. She died Feb. 26, 1986.
Dr. Dow established a veterinary practice in Fort Madison in 1924 where he practiced until retiring in 1986. He graduated from Iowa State University in 1924 with a degree in veterinary medicine. He was a member of Stella Lodge 440 AFAM, Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity, a charter member of the Quad City Small Animal Veterinary Association, past president of the Eastern Iowa Veterinary Association, was a lifetime member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, and was a member of the Southeast Iowa Veterinary Association. He was a member of Union Presbyterian Church in Fort Madison.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Robert (Dorothy A.) Sorensen, Bloomington, Minn.; one son, James R. Dowell, D.D.S., Santa Barbara, Calif.; one sister, Mrs. Richard (Maxine) Amborn, Fort Madison; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The body has been cremated. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Union Presbyterian Church, Fort Madison, with Dr. Marvin Potter officiating. Private committal will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery. Barr Memorial Chapel is assisting with the services.
