FT. MADISON — Clyde L. Houston, 82, West Point Rt. 1, died at 10:25 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 6, at St. Francis Continuation Care Center, Burlington.
He was born Aug. 11, 1900, in Lee County to Asa T. and Mary Leverett Houston. He married Elsie Shephard on March 25, 1922, in Lee County. Mr. Houston was a retired farmer, a member of the Farm Bureau and Denmark Congregational United Church of Christ. He was a life resident of Lee County.
Surviving: Wife; four sons, Kenneth, St. Louis, Harley and Harold, both rural West Point, and Clifford, Burlington; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; sister, Mrs. H.G. (Florence) Dow, Ft. Madison.
Funeral: 1:30 p.m. Tuesay, Barr Memorial Chapel, the Rev. David Gaskill; Denmark Cemetery. A memorial has been established.

Elsie S. Houston, 85, of rural West Point, died at 11:45 a.m. Saturday, April 12, at Burlington Medical Center.
She was born Jan. 11, 1901, in Lee County to Henry and Lucy Hays Shephard. She married Clyde L. Houston March 25, 1922, in Lee County; he died Aug. 6, 1983.
She was a lifelong resident of Lee County. She belonged to the Denmark Congregational United Church of Christ, the East Circle of her church and the Denmark Senior Citizens.
Surviving are four sons, Harley and Harold, both of rural West Point, Kenneth, St. Louis, and Clifford, Burlington; one sister, Mabel Huebner, rural West Point; nin grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Services for Mrs. Houston will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Barr Memorial Chapel, Fort Madison, with the Rev. David Gaskill officiating. Burial will be in Denmark Cemetery, Denmark.
A memorial has been established for the Denmark Congregational United Church of Christ.
