Mrs. Houston is also looking over our new school building to get some ideas for the erection of a similar building in Denmark, Iowa. Mr. Houston owns the Webb Wright farm of 240 acres and is making quite a few experiments on it. He is highly pleased with the assistance of his nephew, Lester Houston, has opened a dairy which is proving a great benefit to Vandalia.—Vandalia Leader

ASA HOUSTON OF DENMARK DIES

Asa Turner Houston, 71, a life-long resident of Denmark died at his home at 2:30 o'clock this morning after a lingering illness.

Mr. Houston for years was prominent in the activities of Denmark and was secretary of the board of trustees of the Denmark Academy. He had been an active member of the Congregational church in Denmark most of his life and was treasurer of the church.

Mr. Houston was born in Denmark August 18, 1868. He was married to Mary Leverett near Salem, April 12, 1899. He was an authority on history of Denmark and in research work in the academy.

Surviving are his widow; one son, Clyde L. Houston, Denmark; a daughter Mrs. H. G. Dow, Fort Madison and six grandchildren, Kenneth, Harley, Clifford and Harold Houston, Denmark, and James and Dorothy Dow, Fort Madison, and two sisters, Mrs. Harriet Hitchcock, West Medway, Mass., and Miss Mary Houston, Denmark.

Funeral services will be held from the home Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Rev. Alvin Boettcher will officiate and burial will be in the Denmark cemetery. The body will be taken from Clements chapel to the home Sunday morning at 9 o'clock.

LIFELONG LEE RESIDENT DIES

Mrs. Leverett Houston, 74, died at her home in Denmark, Ia., this morning of heart failure. She had been ailing several years.

She was born Dec. 6, 1868, at Denmark, and was a lifelong resident of that community. She was married April 12, 1899 at Salem, ia., to Asa Turner Houston, who preceded her in death May 10, 1940. She was a member of the Congregational church.

Survivors include a son, Clyde L. Houston, Denmark; a daughter, Mrs. H. G. Dow, Fort Madison; a brother, Dr. Frank Leverett, Ann Arbor, Mich., and six grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2:30 p. m. at the Denmark church with the Rev. A. S. Kilbourn officiating, and burial will be in Denmark cemetery.

The body will be at the Clements chapel until 1:30 p. m. Saturday, when it will be taken to the church at Denmark for services.
