Nuptials Told

Mr. and Mrs. Irvine L. Dunnington, 636 East Fifth-av, announce today the marriage of their daughter, Betty Jane Dunnington to Mr. Paul Donovan Wessel, son of Mrs. L. H. Wessel, 427 East Main-st, and the late Mr. Wessel.

The marriage was an event of January 4, 1939, the ceremony read by Rev. Charles A. Donovan in the Parish House of St. Mary's Cathedral in Covington, Ky.

Mrs. Wessel, graduate of the Lancaster High School in 1936, is on the clerical staff of the Anchor Hocking Glass Corporation.

Mr. Wessel, graduate of St. Mary's High school in 193 is a mold maker with the Anchor Hocking Glass Corporation.

The young couple will establish their home at 427 East Main-st.

Paul Wessel

Paul (Shorty) Wessel, 71, of 315 N. Mt. Pleasant Ave., died at his home Tuesday. He was a member of St. Mary Church and he was past president of Local 73 American Flint Class Workers Union. He was a veteran of World War II.

He is survived by his wife, Betty; three daughters, Mrs. Judy (David_ Clark of Columbus, Mrs. Jean (Tom) Cox and Mrs. Jennifer (William) Maravy, all of Lancaster; one son, Thomas Wessel of Lancaster; 10 grandchildren; one sister, Rosemary Pence of Lancaster; one brother and sister-in-law, John (Gertrude) Wessel of Lancaster; several nieces and nephews.

His parents and one sister, Dorothy Grube, died previously.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary Church, with the Rev. William A. Dunn officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery.

Friends may call at Sheridan Funeral Home Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Rosary will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the American Legion and VFW.

Betty Wessel

Betty J. Dunnington Wessel, 80, Lancaster, who was born in Fairmont, W.Va., daughter of the late Irvine and Jesse Dunnington of Lancaster, passed away Wednesday, Sept 22, 1999, at Sunbridge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

She was employed by Risch Drug Stores for many years before retiring and was a member of the St. Mary Church and Catholic Ladies of Columbia.

She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Cheryl Wessel of Lancaster; three daughters and sons-in-law, Jenny and Bill Maravy of Lancaster, Judy and Dave Clark of Columbus and Jean and Tom Cox of Lancaster; grandchildren, Robert (Chrissy) Cox, Michael Cox, Nanci (Sam) Dyer, Lora Cox, Zack Cox, Bill (Keary) Maravy, Paul Maravy, Megan (Eric) Milisits, Kit and Mollie Maravy and Carey and Anne Warner; great-grandchildren, Travis Cox, Kaylee Maravy, Sammy Dyer, Jake and Elizabeth Cox and Kaylee Warner; sister, Mary Jo Evans of Lancaster; brothers, Bud (Betty) Dunnington of Tempe, Ariz., Richard (Shirley) Dunnington of South Point and Robert (Connie) Dunnington of Torrence, Calif.; sister-in-law, Rosemary Pence of Lancaster; dear friend, Mary Catherine Spires of Lancaster; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul D. Wessel, in 1989; sister-in-law Dorothy Grube and Gertrude Wessel; brothers-in-law, Guy Pence, John Wessel, Mark Grube and Gene Evans; and grandson, Patrick Maravy.

A funeral service will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary Church, with Father Dennis Kigozi officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Sheridan Funeral Home, where a vigil service will be held at 7:30 p.m. The Catholic Ladies of Columbia will hold services at 4 p.m. today at the funeral home.
