From the far West comes today, news of the marriage of Miss Bette Rock, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry J. Rock, 769 East Mulberry st., and Pfc. Irvine L. Dunnington, Jr., U. S. Marine Corps, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Irvine L. Dunnington, 636 East Fifth ave., solemnized on Saturday, February twelfth, in Santa Ana, California.
The Rev. John Callaghara read the double ring service in St. Joseph's Catholic Church, in the evening at five o'clock. Miss Mary Margaret Walters, Los Angeles, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Walters, Mt. Pleasant ave., Lancaster, was the bride's only attendant. Pfc. James Armstrong, New Jersey, served the bridegroom as best man.
For her bridal frock Miss Rock chose a smart spring print, with a background of pastel blue, flowered in black, a black fox fur hat, and carried a matching muff, to which was pinned a white orchid.
She completed her ensemble with a top coat of pale gold colored cloth.
With her suit of pale aqua, Miss Walters wore a pink faille hat, additional accessories in black, and a black fur coat. Her corsage was fashioned of white gardenias.
Following the church service, the bridal party was entertained at dinner at the Santa Ana Hotel. A part of the young couple's honeymoon was spent at the attractive home of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Anderson, Mountain Drive, Beverly Hills, California.
Among interested guests at the ceremony were, Miss Mary Jo Dunnington, a sister of the bridegroom, visiting with relatives in California, and Lieut. David Marcioci, student at the Santa Ana Air Field, both of Lancaster.
It was of interest to the bridegroom that he and his best man, also in the Marines, were together in service overseas.
In the weeks immediately preceding their marriage, Pfc. Dunnington and Mrs. Dunnington were delightfully entertained by friends, made since thay have been established in California. Affairs included several showers for the bride.
The new Mrs. Dunnington, graduate of St. Mary's High School, was secretary to Dr. Paul Magnuson before going to Santa Ana, where she is associated with the office personnel at Government Headquarters in that city.
Pfc. Dunnington, graduate of Lancaster High School, enlisted in the Marine Corps, January 30, 1942, trained at Parris Island, South Carolina and at New River, North Carolina.
He was with the U. S. Marines in the invasion of Guadalcanal and Solomons islands in Aug. of 1942, serving through December of that year, and returning to the United States last June. Following a visit in Lancaster he went on to California, where he is stationed at El Torro Marine Base, Santa Ana.
Pfc. Dunnington and his bride have established residence at 1624 North Baker st. in Santa Ana, California.
