John B. Crone

WEST LEBANON — John B. Crone, 92, of Fort Myers Beach, Fla., died July 25 following a stroke June 29.

Born in Warren County, he had lived in this area most of his life. His marriage was to Irene Hall in 1917, and she survives.

Mr. Crone had a distinguished service career enlisting in the infantry in World War I. H earned the Distinguished Service Cross citation and the French Croix de Gueere for extraordinary heroism in operations at Marvaux, France. He also served in the Army occupation for 18 months.

After returning home from the war, he worked as cashier for 24 years in the Central State Bank and The Farmers Central Bank, both in West Lebanon.

With the outbreak of World War II, he was called back into service and served as commandant of Military AFTP at Bradley College in Peoria, Ill., St. Norbert's College, De Pere, Wis., and the University of Wisconsin at Madison.

He and his wife lived on a farm north of West Lebanon for many years and in 1964 moved from West Lebanon to Fort Myers Beach.

Surviving with the widow are two sons, J. Hall Crone of Route 3, Williamsport and Boyd M. Crone of Route 1, Williamsport; and a daughter, Mrs. Park (Anna Jena) Hunter of Route 3, Williamsport.

Irene H. Crone, 95, former schoolteacher

WILLIAMSPORT — Irene Hall Crone, 95, died at 7:16 p.m. Friday, Feb. 12, in Woodland Manor Nursing Home, Attica, where she had lived since April 1990.

Mrs. Crone formerly taught school at Mound Township School in Warren County.

Born Jun 2, 1897, in Warren County, she lived there most of her life and in Fort Myers Beach, Fla., from 1964 until 1990. She graduated from West Lebanon High School in 1915 and from college in Winona Lake.

She married John B. Crone on Aug. 16, 1917, in Warren County. He was a cashier at Farmers Central Bank. Mr. Crone died July 25, 1986.

She was a member of West Lebanon Christian Church.

Surviving are two sons, J. Hall Crone of Route 3, Williamsport, and Boyd M. Crone of Route 1, Williamsport, and a daughter, Mrs. Park (Anna Jean) Hunter of Route 3, Williamsport.
