Hawkins Irvine

Jack L. Hawkins, of the firm of Smith & Hawkins, of Norton, and Miss Katherine Irvine, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Irvine, of Fairville, were quietly married at the Presbyterian manse in this city at 11:45 a. m., Friday, Sept. 15th, Rev. J. E. Abbott officiating.

They left on the C. & A. flyer at noon for St. Paul, Michigan, where they will make a visit to the bride's sister, Mrs. Geo. Parrish.

They will make their home in Slater.

The groom is the oldest son of E. W. Hawkins.

Jackson Hawkins Funeral Was Sat.

Relatives Here Left Friday Morning to Attend Services at Logansport

Relatives here received word Thurs. of the death of Jackson Long Hawkins which occurred Thurs. noon at his home in Logansport, Ind. Mr. Hawkins had been in failing health for sometime.

Funeral services were held at Logansport at 3 o'clock Friday afternoon and interment was in a cemetery there.

Mr. Hawkins, the son of Ed Hawkins of Fairville and the late Mrs. Eliza Hawkins, was born at Fairville October 10, 1890. He was married in 1911 to Kathryn Irvine and for a period of time operated a general store at Norton. Later he lived in St. Louis and since 1932 had resided in Logansport where he operated a stockyards owned by himself. Three daughters were born to Mr. and Mrs. Hawkins—Mrs. Morris Groverman of Elkhart, Ind., Mrs. Henry Shoop of Logansport and Corina of the home. Survivors, besides the daughters, are his wife, his father, Ed Hawkins of Fairville, four brothers, four sisters and one half brother. George Hawkins of Fairville is a brother. Mrs. Grady Curd of Malta Bend and Mrs. Dorothy Scott of Marshall, are sisters. His mother preceded him in death in 1910.

Relatives here who left early this morning to go to Logansport for the services were Ed Hawkins, George Hawkins, Grady Curd and Mrs. Dorothy Scott. Mrs. Kathryn Maraman, a sister of the deceased, came via airplane to Kansas City and joined the group there to motor to Logansport.

Mrs. Hawkins, 72, Taken by Death

Mrs. Kathryn Hawkins, 72, widow of J. L. (Jack) Hawkins, died at her residence, 2727 E. Broadway at 7:30 a. m. Thursday.

She was born December 30, 1887 in Marshall, Mo., daughter of Robert and Nancy Jane (Shaw) Irvine. Her husband died March 30, 1950.

Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Eliza Groverman of Valparaiso, Mrs. Ruth Leigh Shoop of 2410 E. Broadway and Mrs. Corina Becker of 3228 N. Pennsylvania avenue; four grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Maude Hawkins, Royal Oaks, Mich., Mrs. George Parrish, Los Angeles, Calif., and Mrs. Laura Goddard, Miami, Mo.; several nieces and nephews.

She had been a member of the Baptist church.

The body will be returned to the residence from the Kroeger funeral home at 8 p. m. tonight. Friends may call at the residence.

At noon Saturday, the body will be taken to the funeral home where services will be held at 2 p. m. with the Rev. M. L. Robinson officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Hope cemetery.
