PEORIA - James B. Helmer, 88, of Peoria died at 10:45 a.m. Monday, March 22, 2004, at Proctor Hospital.
Born July 13, 1915, in Carroll, Iowa, to Charles and Jennie Willey Helmer, he married Janet Fredrickson on May 28, 1977, in Peoria. She died Dec. 7, 1997, in Peoria.
He also was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
Surviving are one stepdaughter, Kathryn (and Jim) Stepzinski of Peoria; two stepsons, Dennis (and Barbara) Kaman of Ennis, Texas, and William (and Barbara) Kaman of Round Rock, Texas; and two stepgrandsons.
A World War II Army veteran, he served in the 82nd Airborne Division.
He owned and operated Schaumburg Mattress Manufactering Co. Inc. in Schaumburg.
He was a member of First Federated Church.
Private memorial services will be at the church columbarium. Cremation will be accorded, and burial of ashes will follow the services. Arrangements are by Wilton Mortuary.
