Children of MARY GERTRUDE HELMER and JOE GAUDERMAN:
Carroll Daily Herald, August 1, 19356165
Carroll residents were shocked last evening when they learned of the death of Mrs. Joe Gauderman, 22, as it was not generally known that she was seriously ill.
Mrs. Gauderman gave birth to a daughter July 20 and was progressing when complications developed the latter part of the week. However, she rallied and seemed much better Monday, but Tuesday she was not so well. Yesterday she became seriously ill and failed rapidly. She passed away last evening shortly after 8 o'clock at St. Anthony hospital.
Born Mary Gertrude Helmer in Carroll, September 7, 1912, she was graduated from high school with the class of 1929. She attended Cornell college at Mount Vernon and then was employed in the offices of the Daily Herald. She resigned to become cashier at the Earle theater and gave up that position shortly after her marriage to Joe Gauderman, Dec. 15, 1933, at Fort Dodge.
Mrs. Gauderman, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Helmer, was a member of the younger social set of Carroll, with whom she was a favorite. Besides her parents, young husband and infant daughter, Sally Joan, she leaves a sister, Miss Jane Helmer, and three brothers, Orlando Helmer of Chicago, James Helmer, who is a cadet at the United States Military academy at West Point, and Paul Helmer, at home. A brother, Charles Helmer died August 3, 1924.
Mrs. Gauderman was a member of Trinity Episcopal church and was affiliated with Chapter EB, P. E. O. She was a lover of music and previous to her illness sang in the choir of the First Presbyterian church.
Loved by young and old, her demise at the age of 22 is a grief to the community.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 o'clock Saturday afternoon at the Huffman Funeral home. Rev. W. R. Yingling, pastor of the First Presbyterian church, will officiate and burial will be in the Carroll cemetery. The body was at the funeral home Thursday.
