A wedding which came as a complete surprise to the large number of friends of the participants took place Monday morning at 8 o'clock when Miss Velma Iorns, daughter of Mr. Charles C. Iorns, 509 South Mond street, became the bride of Mr. Bruce Monroe, at the home of the bride's father. Both are well known here.
The wedding was very informal. The simple wedding ceremony was pronounced by Rev. Fraser, of the First Baptist church in the presence of twenty-five guests, relative and close friends of the couple.
Immediately following the ceremony the bride and groom left for a two weeks' outing at Clear Lake. Eluding the assembled guests, the couple reached Eaton before an automobile, filled with guests, overtook them. Cards bearing the information that the couple are "newlyweds," were distributed through the train at Eaton when Mr. and Mrs. Monroe boarded it.
Decorations at the Iorns home, where the wedding took place, were simple yet beautiful. Palms were in evidence here and there, and great French baskets filled with roses were placed about the home.
Following their return from their honeymoon Mr. and Mrs. Monroe will be at home in Anderson, where Mr. Monroe is employed. Mrs. Monroe is will known here. She was graduated from the Muncie high school and is one of the most popular of Muncie's charming girls. Mr. Monroe is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert W. Monroe, of 300 Alameda avenue, Riverside. He is a member of the Beta Phi Sigma fraternity and a graduate of the Muncie high school.
