Robert W. Monroe, 64, former official of Delaware county, died suddenly at his home, 300 Alameda avenue, Monday morning at 12:45 o'clock when stricken with apoplexy. The widow and four children, Miss Agnes Monroe and Donald G. Monroe of Muncie, Paul C. Monroe, Richmond, Mo., and Bruce E. Monroe, of Anderson, survive. The funeral services will be conducted from the residence Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, Dr. B. M. Nyce, pastor of the First Presbyterian church officiating, and interment will be in Beech Grove cemetery.
The deceased was a prominent Muncie resident and his death comes as a shock to his hosts of friends. He had been active in politics for years. In 1882 he was appointed deputy county auditor, serving in that capacity for twelve years, when he was elected county auditor, which office he served most efficiently for two terms. He resumed the practice of law at the expiration of his term as county auditor and was elected prosecuting attorney of Delaware county in 1906.
The deceased was born in Xenia, Ohio, March 3, 1851, and received his education in the schools of Lebanon, Ohio and Valparaiso, Ind. He graduated from the training class of the Valparaiso school and taught school for seven years. At the same time he studied law and in 1877 was made a member of the Delaware county bar. He was an active member of the First Presbyterian church and was a member of the I. O. O. F. lodge, No. 174.

Mrs. Alice Reid Monroe, widow of Robert W. Monroe, former Delaware County auditor, died at her home in Sacramento, Calif., Saturday. She had resided in Califonia with a daughter, Mrs. Agnes Monroe Kirkman.
Mrs. Monroe was graduated from Muncie high school in the class of 1880, and was an active member in the Presbyterian Church here. Other survivors include a son, Bruce E. Monroe of Santa Ana, Calif.; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Two sons, Paul and Donald Monroe, preceded her in death.
Relatives in Muncie include Mrs. Harry M. Chaddock and the Misses Mima, Mary and Carrie Keener, nieces, and Reid Bowers, a nephew.
Funeral services were conducted in Sacramento Monday, with cremation following. The remains will be interred in Beech Grove Cemetery here.
