Howard-Monroe

A wedding which will come as a surprise to the friends of the contracting parties was that which united the lives of Miss Agnes Monroe and Mr. Walter Howard, which was solemnized at the First Presbyterian church at 8 o'clock Wednesday morning by Rev. ?. M. Nyce, in the presence of the immediate relatives of the bride and groom. The bride and groom left immediately after the ceremony for a wedding trip to the east, and on their return will take up their residence in Muncie. The wedding was the culmination of a romance of long standing, although friends of the couple were not aware that their marriage would take place so soon. The wide acquaintance and popularity of the bridal couple make the event one of unusual interest in Muncie social circles. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert H. Monroe, of Riverside, and is known as one of Muncie's most talented musicians and charming young women. Her skill as a pianist has attracted wide attention and she won enviable renown as accompanist for Orville Harrold during his concert engagements in the middle west. She is also a skilled pipe organ player and is organist for the First Presbyterian church. Mr. Howard is a popular young man and a vocalist of considerable ability. Both the bride and groom have a host of friends who will unite in wishing them happiness.

Announcement was made Wednesday afternoon of the marriage tomorrow of Miss Agnes Monroe, daughter of Mrs. R. W. Monroe, of this city, and Mr. Lester William Kirkman of San Francisco, Cal.

The marriage of Miss Monroe and Mr. Kirkman will take place at the home of the bride's brother, Mr. Bruce Monroe at Anderson, Thursday morning at 10 o'clock. Immediate friends only will attend the wedding.

After the ceremony Mr. and Mrs. Kirkman probably will leave immediately for San Francisco where Mr. Kirkman is a prominent attorney.

Miss Monroe is one of the city's best known young women and is a prominent musician.

Lester W. Kirkman

Lester Williams Kirkman, 68, of 3321 T Street, a Sacramento resident for 30 years, died yesterday after a long illness. He was a member of the California State Bar Association was was a retired insurance salesman.

Kirkman was born in Tulare County and was graduated from Indiana University. He was a member of Madison Lodge No. 44, Free and Accepted Masons in Pendleton, Ind., and Phi Delta Phi Legal Fraternity.

He is survived by his wife, Agnes; his sons, Robert B. and Monroe W. Kirkman; his grandchildren, Laurie and Robert Quentin Kirkman, all of Sacramento and his sisters, Mesdames Ella Williams, Rita Cook and Juanda Holter, all of Anderson, Ind., and Dora Mingle of Pendleton, Ind.

Services will be conducted tomorrow at 11 AM in Nauman's funeral home and burial will be in the East Lawn Cemetery.

Friends have been asked to omit flowers and to contribute to the Shriners' Hospital for Crippled Children in San Francisco.

Agnes M. Kirkman

In accordance with her wishes, no services were held for Agnes Monroe Kirkman, a piano and organ teacher who had been organist for a number of Sacramento churches.

Mrs. Kirkman had lived in Sacramento for 62 years at the time of her death Feb. 12 at the age of 97.

A native of Indiana, Mrs. Kirkman was a graduate of the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music.

Mrs. Kirkman, who continued teaching until she was 82, had been the organist for St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Westminster Presbyterian Church, and the First Christian Church. She also had been the accompanist for 15 years for the McNeill Club, a men's chorus that once sang in Sacramento. Before moving to Sacramento she had been the accompanist for a concert group.

She was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church and the Tuesday Club.

Mrs. Kirkman leaves her sons, Robert of Sacramento and Monroe of San Diego, and two grandchildren.
