Sergeant James T. O'Brien, grandson of Mr. and Mrs. William E. Mentel, 2973 River Road, Sedamsville, married recently Miss Martha Ann McCoy, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James H. McCoy, Jr., 3362 Hillside Avenue. Sergeant O'Brien, who enlisted at Fort Thomas, Ky., in August, 1940, has been assigned to duty at Camp Campbell, Ky., where he and his bride will make their home.

James Thomas O'Brien, 70, of Western Hills, a Cincinnati police officer for 27 years, died Wednesday.

Mr. O'Brien, whose nickname was "OB," retired in 1974 as a detective with the criminal investigation section. Three of his sons, Michael, Bill and James Jr., also became police officers.

Mr. O'Brien was an Army veteran of World War II, a member of the Queen City Lodge 69 of the Fraternal Order of Police, the Knights of Columbus and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He leaves his wife, Martha Ann McCoy O'Brien; five other sons, Navy Master Chief Dennis O'Brien, John O'Brien, Kevin O'Brien, Terry O'Brien and Kelly O'Brien; a daughter, Patricia Egan; 20 grandchildren and five great- grandchildren.

Mass: 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Antoninus Church, Green Township. Visitation: 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at Vitt & Stermer Funeral Home, Delhi Township, with FOP services at 6 p.m. and VFW services at 7 p.m.
