Dr. F. L. Wharton officiated yesterday at the marriage of Charles Pengelly of Calumet, Mich., and Miss Lela B. Barley of Marion, Ind. Mr. Pengelly enlisted when the war broke out in 1898 but by mistake was bound to a three years' service with the regular army instead of in the volunteers. He intended to marry when the strife commenced and it was at his future wife's suggestion that he enlisted, she promising to wait for him. He recently returned from San Francisco and she met him here.

Lelia Pengelly Died Wednesday

Mrs. Lelia Pengelly, a native of Marion, Indiana, died in this city December 19. Her husband, Charles Pengally; two sisters, Mrs. Inez Barker and Mrs. Mabel Wilson, all of Santa Cruz; a niece, Mrs. Arthur Swanson of Del Rey, and newphe, Claud Sterling of Fresno, are surviving relatives.

Services will be held at the Irvin M. Smith chapel, 9 Cayuga street, Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock, with Mrs. Louise Jameson, Christian Scientist in charge. Entombment in Santa Cruz mausoleum.

CHARLES PENGELLY

Charles Pengelly, 73, a former custodian of the Fresno Memorial Auditorium, died yesterday in his home in Zayanta, near Felton, Santa Cruz County. He had been ill for nearly a month.

Pengelly was in charge of the auditorium for about six years. He went to the Santa Cruz community about five years ago.

He was born in Michigan and came to Fresno about 30 years ago.

He was a bricklayer by trade and served as the secretary and business agent of his Fresno union local for about 12 years. He represented the state several times a delegate at large in international conventions of the Bricklayers, Masons and Plasterers International Union.

His fraternal affiliations included the Las Palmas Masonic Lodge and the Fresno Pyramid No. 10 of the Sciots.

His survivors include his widow, Mar. Mary Pengelly of Zayanta; four sisters, Maude Harvey, Myrtle Anderson and Jane Anson, all of Stockton, and Mary Dupose of Oakland, and a brother, John Pengelly of Boulder Creek.

The funeral service will be conducted tomorrow at 2 PM in the Irvin M. Smith Chapel in Santa Cruz. Burial will be in Santa Cruz.
