Charles T. Sterling, aged thirty-nine years, and a well-known resident of Marion, died at the Marion hospital at12:45 this morning after a ten days' illness with peritonitis, followed by acute appendicitis. Mr. Sterling was removed to the hospital four days ago and an operation was performed in the hope of affording relief. It was found that his condition was almost hopeless and that an abscess had been formed. The appendix which which the surgeons sought to remove had already been swept away and the patient's life hung by a thread. The operation was performed as a last resort, but Mr. Sterling steadily grew weaker and the end came this morning. He was surrounded by friends and relatives when the death angel appeared.
Mr. Sterling was born and reared in Cincinnati, Ohio, and came to Marion eight years ago. He was connected with the Butler Music Company and later organized the Sterling Ice and Fuel Company, with which he was connected for three years. Prior to his last illness he was employed as a salesman by the Wallace Music Company. The deceased is survived by a wife and two children—Claude, five years of age, and Lelia, three years of age. His wife was formerly Miss Inez Barley of Marion. The body was removed to the Buchanan & Stuart morgue where it was prepared for burial and later taken to the family residence on South Boots street. No arrangements for the funeral have yet been made.
