We intended to say in our last week’s issue, but didn’t, that Mr. James D. Rogers, of Atlanta, and Miss Mattie Hargis, daughter of Major Thomas V. Hargis, of Kingston, were married at the residence of the bride’s father on December 31, 1883, Rev. G. S. Tumlin officiating. Mr. Rogers is traveling salesman for F. & G. T. Dodd, of Atlanta, and is a handsome, clever, genial, whole-souled gentleman. Miss Mattie is noted for her beauty, accomplishments and amiable disposition. She was an acknowledged belle of Bartow county, and was loved and admired by a large circle of friends. The American, even at this late day, presents congratulations and best wishes for a life of success and happiness to the newly married couple.

Death has visited us during the week, and on the 28th, at 7 ½ o’clock a. m., claimed little Lucy Gordon, the darling little daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Rogers, aged nearly two years. The only child. A sad loss to the bereaved parents, but their loss is her gain. The precious Savior said, “Suffer little children to come unto me and forbid them not for of such is the kingdom of heaven.” The bereaved parents have the heartfelt sympathies of our entire community.
