Orville W. Sheffer, 79, who made his home at the Leland Motor Inn, died there unexpectedly Friday morning. A native of Randolph County, he spent most of his life in this area. However, he resided for a time in Tucson, Ariz.
He was a retired employee of the Swayne Robinson Co., and was a former member of the Moose and Druids lodges. His wife Mabel died in June.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Conovan Sanford and Mrs. Robert F. Wolfe, both of Richmond; two sons, Gene W. Sheffer and Jack L. Sheffer, both of Richmond; one sister, Mrs. Paul Bryan of Indianapolis; one stepson, Richard E. Shultz of Indianapolis; one stepdaughter, Mrs. Joseph Jeffries of Litchfield Park, Ariz.; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Private funeral services for Mr. Sheffer will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Doan & Mills Funeral Home with Dr. Robert Bell of First Christian Church officiating. There will be no public calling. Burial will be in Glenhaven Cemetery.

Lotha E. Wolfal Sheffer, 93, formerly of the Stonehenge Apartments, died Tuesday, Dec. 1, at Golden Rule Nursing Center after a short illness.
She was born in Darke County, Ohio, and had spent most of her life in Richmond. She was a retired chief operator for General Telephone and previously had been employed by Richmond Home Telephone Co. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and a former member of the Red Cross volunteers at Reid Hospital.
Survivors include two daughters, Frances Sanford and Joan Wolfe, both of Richmond; one son, Jack Sheffer of Fountain City; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
One son, Gene Sheffer, died in 1985.
A private service will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 4, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home with the Rev. Glenn W. McGuire of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Hollansburg Cemetery.
There will be no public calling.
Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.
