He married (3) RHODA ELIZABETH VERNON on May 18, 1880 in Madison County, Virginia.1799 She was born in 1840.

Death of Calvin Smith

N. Calvin Smith, a former citizen of Rockingham, died at Providence, Rhode Island, on Monday, April 19, aged 73 years and 8 months. Mr. Smith was a native of this county, and served for many years as deputy sheriff of Rockingham. His wife was Miss Nancy B. Devier, who died before the war. Until a few years ago he resided in Madison county, but in recent years went to Providence, where the balance of his life was spent with his daughter, Mrs. Charles A. Grant. He was buried there April 21st. He was a veteran of the Mexican war.
