Titus W. Sprague was born in the township of Ellington on Jan. 26, 1845, and died in this village on Sept. 21, 1915, where he had spent the past 21 years. With the exception of seven years at Steamburg his entire life was passed in Ellington. He was married on Oct. 12, 1875, to Miss Viola Huntington, who with the four children, Elva Sprague Dixon of Philadelphia, Pa., Arlie Sprague Gates of Ellington, Harry of Newark, N. J., and Archie of Cary, Ind., survives him. He was an unusually friendly boy, an honorable and upright man, known and liked by all. He was a farmer through most of his life and was well until last spring when he suffered a slight stroke. Since then he had been unable to work, although up and about until the morning of his death, when he was unable to dress and called assistance, passing away within a few minutes of hardening of the arteries.
The funeral was held at the home on Friday at 2 p. m., conducted by Ellington lodge No 915, I. O. O. F., who marched from their hall in a body. In the absence of Rev. Snyder pastor of the M. E. church, of which Mr. Sprague was a member, Ref. John Merrill, a friend of the family, spoke words of comfort and cheer in his usual pleasing manner. Two beautiful hymns were sung by Mrs. Curtis and Mrs. Benedict, and the flowers given by friends and neighbors completely covered the casket. Interment was made in the Pioneer cemetery in this village.
