Obituary.

With feelings of deep sorrow we are called upon to relate the decease of the late Charles L. Brown, of Hoyt, Jackson county, Kansas, formerly of Brown county, which occurred July 18, 1887, after a lingering illness. Mr. Brown was nearly 51 years old at his death. He was the son of William and Eliza Brown, of Coldspring, Cattaraugus county, N. Y. He removed to Kansas in 1870. He was always considered one of our most upright, honorable business men. Death claims all for its victim sooner or later. Very patient was he through his long and tedious illness. He exclaimed a little while before he died that he was glad and willing to go. His funeral sermon was preached by the Rev. J. W. Penn, of Holton. Mr. Brown leaves a wife, four children and many other relatives to mourn his loss.

Lynn.

It was with genuine sorrow that loving friends laid to rest, our beloved friend, Mrs. Emma Lynn. Mrs. Lynn died at 3:30 p.m., March 25, 1927. She was born in Cattaragus county, New York, May 17, 1844, the oldest daughter of Amos Hall. There were four other sisters, two of whom are now living, Mrs. W. C. Powers of Orlando, Florida, and Mrs. Mary Beals of Oneonta, New York.

Mrs. Lynn was first married to Mr. Charles Brown in Randolph, New York in the year 1866. She was the mother of five children, three of whom are still living, Mr. Brinton Brown, Mrs. Harry Collier of Denver, Colo., and Mrs. T. S. Cooney.

Mr. Brown died in 1887 and in 1900, she was again married to Mr. Samuel Lynn.

Funeral services were held on Sunday afternoon at the Baptist church of Holton, Rev. E. W. Parkes, pastor, conducting the services. A multitude of friends from all walks of life came to pay a last tribute. A quartet sang "Asleep in Jesus" and "Shall We Gather at the River."

To the bereaved family and relatives we pray that the Holy Spirit may indeed comfort them in their great loss.

Mrs. Tom Cooney's mother, Mrs. Lynn, was buried Sunday in the Mayetta cemetery. This is another good woman who has gone. We have known her for a great many years, when she used to live down by the Brown school. She will be greatly missed at her home.
